An interesting note about this shipwreck is that it has been often misidentified as the Inconstant, the ship on which Napoleon escaped from the Isle of Elba in 1815. Following Napoleon’s epic escape, the Inconstant was seized by the allied European powers and later reportedly sold to a company seeking to colonize California. She then alledgedly found her way to Monterey Bay engaged in illegal sumggling trades where it was thought that her name was changed to La Natalie flying under the flag of Mexico…mystery abounds…
